May 2010 - New article using EasyBeacons for Genotyping

"Prevalence and genotypes of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato infection in Ixodes ricinus ticks in southern Norway"

VIVIAN KJELLAND1, SNORRE STUEN2, TONE SKARPAAS3 & AUDUN SLETTAN1
From the 1University of Agder, Kristiansand, 2Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, Sandnes, and 3Sørlandet Hospital Health Enterprise, Kristiansand, Norway
"...The primers in this study were unmarked, whereas the probe, an EasyBeacons™ nuclease resistant probe developed by PentaBase™, was labelled with FAM. Like molecular beacons, EasyBeacons™ are quenched when the probes are unbound, but fluoresce at hybridization to a target sequence. Real-time PCR was performed using iCycler/MyIQTM (Bio-Rad)...."

PentaBase makes it to the frontcover

Illustrations of the EasyBeacon™ technology from PentaBase™ are used on the front cover of "Methods in Molecular Biology 429, Molecular Beacons". Inside the book is a full 23 pages chapter on how to use EasyBeacons™, including both theory and protocols for experiment set up is found. The chapter is written by PentaBase’s founder and CEO Ulf Bech Christensen. The book ”Molecular Beacons; Signalling Nucleic Acid Probes, Methods, and Protocols” contains the following highlights: It shows a diverse set of instructive examples from probe design to applications in clinical settings guided by experts in the field who provide easy to follow experiments. The book commences with an introduction to the basic principles of fluorescence, extends the potential of real-time PCR contributions, advocate simplifications of the probe technologies, Presents a new simplified molecular beacon design EasyBeacons and demonstrates the utility in DNA methylation profiling. ”..I am very impressed about the performance of the probes..” Professor Oliver Seitz, response on the chapter.
